Rumors about a new model began to emerge on the surface since Toyota showed the predecessor of the FT-1 concept in 2007. Here we have almost a decade in the future, and there is no supra in the market, but according to some reports, This is about to change.

This is mainly because Toyota is developing the car in cooperation with BMW in a new rear-wheel drive platform. While the platform and its engines have been prepared for some time, BMW has not finished developing next Z4, so they had to postpone the next Toyota FT-1 2016 at least until the end of the year. This will surely give them more time to finish the car, but it also means that Toyota is losing enough because people are becoming the new Porsche Cayman and the AMG GT models.
