2016 LOTUS EVORA 400 – SAFER THAN EVER

Lotus is at an interesting point at this time. It faces great financial problems and needs to reduce many things just to stay in the business, but also need to update your vehicles to keep more people interested in the brand. If both things sound like each other, it is because they do it. Obviously, Lotus can not present a new model to the range, so the best thing is to update an existing vehicle and reveal a new edition that will be added to the alignment. That is exactly what they did with Evora 400.

Throughout the honesty, the main reason for delivering Evora 400 was a silly theme. A problem with non-compass airbags for the United States market, who saw Lotus stopped Evora’s sales in the United States. Obviously, losing that great segment of a market is not something that are prepared to do, so the solution occurred to them to make this car in order with US laws. As a result, we are getting 2016 Evora 400 and instead of solving that problem, they decided to give it more power and improve it slightly in multiple areas. This lotus is now ready to take the battle to 4c and even to Cayman GT4. We suspect that the greatest fight for Evora will not exceed Porsche or Alfa, but obtain recognition and the possibility of doing so.

2016 Lotus Evora 400 Exterior Design

Let’s start with the style. It’s fine, so it’s not the extravagant Italian, the alpha 4c is, but it is not as boring as the Cayman either. Yes, the GT4 has the flash added on the standard alligator and is instantly recognizable as such, but only looks at the new Evora 400. It has a threatening and aggressive appearance that the GT4 with its sophisticated appearance simply can not match. The fascia of the front has been largely changed (it is not that I needed updates) and now it is much evil. If this moves behind you, you will leave out of your way, unless you are sitting behind the steering wheel of a true beast.

The front end really seems that it belongs to a sports car, like Evora, and the front divider, the great aggressive ventilations and all LED lighting do it up to date and a part of the new age of sports cars. The side is the only segment mostly unchanged Evora, maintaining the same line of waist, roof and aggressive lines at the bottom of the door, curving inside. It is a well thought out of profile, and we can not argue that it is a pretty nice car.

Round your back, we find quite substantial changes as in the front. For beginners, the rear lights have been incorporated much more deeply into the rear fascia, and the spoiler is now more distinctly pronounced. The rear diffuser is much more aggressive, and has been beautifully integrated into the bumper. All the appearance of the rear fascia is that of a much wider vehicle. There is 0.33 drag resistance CD and Lotus says it produces a genuine global force. According to them, 32 kg at 150 miles per hour, which is very impressive. There are new lighter wheels for 2016, and new lateral mirrors also make an appearance.

INTERIOR DESIGN

The interior also sees some remarkable updates, but not as much as the outside. The thresholds of the doors have been narrowed by 43 mm, and are 56 mm lower. The door panels also take the same approach. Once inside the cabin, you are received by new front seats that are lighter in 3 kg. There is a new light steering wheel formed by magnesium, wrapped in leather. It’s not just the steering wheel too. The entire cabin is covered with high quality materials, such as alcantara and Scottish leather. As the level of cutting increases, the level of luxury increases, of course, but everything that has a high price.

The driver is received by a set of reviewed meters that work even better now. The black board is very well contrasted by the white numbers, which means that reading them even at speed is very easy. The buttons for automatic transmission have now been moved higher on the control panel to facilitate access. Much more attention has been dedicated to ergonomics, and will notice this if you compare this version and other models in the alignment. Contrary to popular belief, you can opt for rear seats that will be seated at 280 mm lower and weigh at 3.4 kg less. If you are especially intelligent, opt for the high-end entertainment system. High, being a relative term here, since it only adds light lifter speakers and pillars tweeters.

Transmission

Under the hood (better say behind the driver as it is motivated in between) we find the same V6 supercharged 3.5 liters of Toyota origin, tuned here to develop, as its name suggests, 400 HP. It also pumps 302 lb-ft of torque, which represents an increase of 55 HP and seven torque LB-FT compared to the Evora Standard. The additional energy translates into a drop of 0.3 seconds in the sprint at 60 miles per hour, which is now done in just 4.1 seconds. The maximum speed has risen for 8 miles per hour and now has 186 mph.

Evora 400 has three configurations in your traction control system to help you in any situation: Drive, Sport and, of course, race. The greatest notable difference between these is in the response and aggressiveness of the accelerator entry. It also gets a switchable exhaust system that allows you to move to the perfection of a peaceful melody and worthy of a noisy and Gnarly V6 snort. If you are something like us, you will leave it mainly in the strongest environment, but you will have in mind that this could annoy your neighbors.

The way in which 2016 Evora 400 is simply driving the mind completely. The best way to describe it is to say that it goes around the corners as it is in the rails. It is much more capable than 4C and almost on par with GT4. You may not be there, compared to GT4, but with respect to straight line performance, you have exceeded it. The fact that will make the massive slides is a fairly large bonus as well. You can miss a manual gearbox, something offered by the GT4, but it is still bright and fun.

PRICE

The prices of the 400 begin to $ 89,900 we will call it $ 90,000 for the love of Argument. Worth it? Yes and no. No, because if you want the most true driver’s car form, you will get the GT4. But, again, he has that attraction of Lotus, which is simply unmistakable.
